A 2-year journey is not too long, but we are proud that our dedication and efforts have been recognized along the way.

About us

The Indian women in Australia (IWIA), established in 2019, is a platform to connect and bring together women of Indian origin living in Australia. IWIA perceives itself as a catalyst and facilitator in building an all-women community and bringing women into full participation in mainstream society by providing opportunities for all. It is an open network where women are free to seek help, entrepreneurs to network their businesses and to support the ones in crisis and lift each other up when in need.

IWIA has become well known amongst women across Australia and is recognised as the ‘go-to page’ to share their personal journey, seek help and stay connected in order to grow together. It also lays emphasis on disseminating knowledge transfer regarding critical issues faced by women, coping mechanisms, mental health, domestic security or in general regarding women’s roles in society and trends influencing their lives and status. The idea is to add value to the community by pooling member’s expertise in their respective areas, and also bringing women from various fields to guide and encourage the community on a variety of topics. .

We continue to grow every day and would appreciate your support in making this a trusted and successful community! Thank you for joining us on this journey of lifting each other strongly!

Reena Anita Rana

IWIA Admin

Reena Rana, woman of Indian origin and currently an Australian citizen earned her Master’s in Accounting & Financial Management from La Trobe University in 2009. She has over 5 years of experience in working with NAB, Energy Australia and Origin after she finished her studies. As a dedicated single mother of a four-year-old daughter under personally challenged circumstances, she began to look for women in similar situations and felt the need to connect with them personally. This led to her building a network of women with a few numbers back in 2019 which on Facebook, today is called IWIA – “Indian women in Australia”. It is a growing 12.1k members group formed for, by and from the women in Australia. With an objective to connect with women from different spheres and encourage them to build themselves further and to strengthen them, she started receiving help calls and realised soon that there are many who need support. The group so far has hosted several big events since its inception and a workshop every week with counsellors, doctors, creative artists, and women from different backgrounds to help and guide the others. IWIA, has been appreciated by the Multicultural minister and has proudly helped hundreds so far especially in the times of the pandemic including students morally, emotionally, and financially. Along with pursuing Migration law currently, Reena is passionate to grow this community to an extent where every woman feels safe, supported, and encouraged with any struggle she might be going through and to strengthen them. She feels largely for issues related to dowry, domestic abuse, marriage frauds, mental illness, emotional healing and support.

“Reena has created an accessible platform for women of the Indian background to connect, network and support each other. It has provided many opportunities for single mums to seek help, women entrepreneurs to network their businesses and women in general to support each other. Living in Australia, far from family and motherland can be an isolating experience, and I believe Reena has managed to provide a community to overcome such isolation. Well done and keep up the tireless and amazing work!!”
